Bike Patrol

Criminals aren't the only ones riding in the shadows.  Corning Police Department Graveyard shift likes to get out of the cars and ride bikes once in a while.  People committing crimes get accustomed to looking out for the patrol cars.  A Police Officer on a bike is more easily undetected.

One of many contacts ended in the arrest of Erich Ulrich of Corning.  He was arrested for possession of Methamphetamine.  Due to the recent change in legislation with Proposition 47, possession of Methamphetamine is now a Misdemeanor.  Erich was cited and released.

Keep your pets safe this 4th of July

With the 4th Of July holiday right around the corner, The Corning Police Department would like to remind dog owners in the city of Corning to ensure your dogs are kept safe during what is a potentially stressful time for them. Safe and Sane fireworks are legal to use in Corning. The loud noises have the potential to frighten our dogs. As a result, the days following July 4th tend to be busy for our animal control. Corning Police Department receives multiple reports of missing or found dogs, or dogs that are wandering in the roadways. Animal Control will not be on duty from Friday, July 3rd until Monday, July 6th. On duty police officers are not equipped to handle animal calls, and will not respond unless the animal is posing a threat to the public. The Corning Police Department asks that you take the necessary steps to protect your dogs well being during the holiday weekend. Please make sure that you have up to date information on your dogs collar, whether it be a tag with your current address and phone number, or have the information hand-written on your dogs collar. Please make sure that your dog has a current City of Corning Dog license which will aide in having your dog returned to you if located, and protect you from being issued a citation for having an unlicensed dog (6.16.180( C ) CMC). Please make sure all of your fences and gates are secure to prevent your dog from escaping, or bring them inside your home. The Corning Police Department asks that you not contact the City of Corning Animal Shelter (2nd Chance Pet Rescue) regarding your missing dog. All inquiries may be made with the Corning Police Department Dispatch, which is on duty 24 hours a day. Corning Police Dispatchers will forward information regarding lost or found animals to Animal Control on Monday. The Corning Police Department appreciates the responsible pet owners of our city!

It's going to be a scorcher out there!

Today is supposed to be an exceptionally hot day in the Northern Valley. The city of Corning has announced cooling zones that are available to the public for those of you who need a place to escape the heat.

-Corning Library, 740 Third St. is available from 2-6 p.m. today

-Corning Senior Center, 1015 Fourth St. is available from 8 a.m.-1 p.m today

Please keep cool, drink plenty of water (even when you don't feel thirsty), complete outdoor tasks early in the day, and take care of your pets and keep them cool, too.

Sympathy from the Corning Police Department

The Corning Police Department would like to send our sympathy to our brothers and sisters at the Bakersfield Police Department, who early this morning tragically lost one of their own while on duty. Our prayers are with the family of the fallen officer.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God"
Matthew 5:9

Weapon Violation

On 06-25-15 around 10:59 PM Corning Police Officers conducted a Probation search on Daniel Katleba who was walking on Solano St near Sixth St.  Daniel had a fixed blade knife hanging on a necklace concealed under his shirt.  He was arrested for a violation of 21310 PC - Carrying a concealed dirk or dagger.

It is important to remember when carrying edged weapons in public, they must be visible or not readily accessible for use.

For example:  A folding pocket knife in the closed position inside your pocket is OK.  A folding knife left open or a fixed blade knife concealed upon one's person that is accessible for quick use is a crime.
